Jim enlisted in the US Army Air Corps on the 27th Dec 1941 and was released from service on the 15th Oct 1945.

Jim Earn Formby: Service today for former lawmaker
DRUMRIGHT -- Jim Earn Formby, a former state representative and vocational agriculture teacher, died Tuesday. He was 84.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Perry under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home of Perry.

Formby was born Sept. 14, 1920, in Mulberry, Ark. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps 8th Squadron Eight-Ball bomber group from 1941 to 1945.

He earned a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma A&M College, now Oklahoma State University, and moved to Oilton, where he taught vocational agriculture for five years.

He married his wife, Ijean Formby, on Jan. 30, 1948, in Newkirk.

After moving to Drumright, Formby earned a master's degree at OSU and went on to teach vocational agriculture at Drumright High School for 28 years.

He resigned from teaching in 1982 to run for the Legislature. During his two terms in the state House of Representatives District 29 seat, he helped create the state Department of Commerce.

Formby also was a community leader, serving as president of the Drumright Chamber of Commerce, president of the Drumright Rotary Club and on the Creek County Fair Board.

He also taught Sunday school at the First United Methodist Church of Drumright.

Formby had been named Creek County Teacher of the Year and Drumright Citizen of the Year.

He is survived by his wife, Ijean Formby; three daughters, Susan Formby of McDonough, Ga., Betty Formby of Richardson, Texas, and Joyce Anderson of Perry; a son, Jim Formby of McDonough, Ga.; four grandchildren; and two sisters.
