Martin was a Revolutionary War veteran, who was involved in many engagements guarding against Indians and Tories in the region. Martin was the older brother of Isaac who was one of the first settlers of Bacon Hill further south on route 32. Martin was married to Maria Winne on July 1, 1771 (or June 16,1772 as per affidavit in pension claim)and had 12 children. He allotted the land for this cemetery.
He and his wife both lived past 96 and are featured in a newly written book on Benedict Arnold by Will Martin.
