George E. Smith Jr.
THOMASVILLE - George E. Smith Jr., 70, of Thomasville, died at 11 p.m. Saturday at Manor Care Health Services South, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Phyllis E. (Martin) Smith. The couple observed their 50th wedding anniversary Feb. 17.
The service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Geiple Funeral Home Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock. Burial will be in Greenmount United Methodist Church Cemetery in Glen Rock. Viewings will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born July 10, 1931, in Glen Rock. He was the son of the late George P. and Lizzie (Sterner) Smith. He was the stepson of Alleine M. (Gladfelter) Smith of Shrewsbury and the foster son of Murrel and Jennie Thoman of Glen Rock.
He was a lifelong truck driver, having worked for Kinard Trucking Co., the former R. J. Eichelberger Trucking Co., Motor Freight Express, Green's Dairy in York and Gordon Snyder Feed Mill in Glenville. He was a member of Greenmount United Methodist Church in Glen Rock, Teamsters Local 430 in York, Early American Steam Engine Society and Pennsylvania Bottle Club Association.
Mr. Smith also is survived by three sons, Gene E. Smith of Shiloh, Larry A. Smith of Weigelstown and Dallas T. Smith of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Denise E. Markle of Shiloh and Elizabeth Flory of Spring Grove; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother, Janna T. "Butch" Smith of York; and four sisters, Sidney F. McWilliams and Tersie P. Krebs, both of Glen Rock, Linda L. Wise of Dallastown and Donna L. Bollinger of Hanover.
Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Rev. Franklin Miller.
