Before moving to Decatur, Allen operated an orchard on his farm in the Harristown community. He was president of the Macon county Farmers club for several years and won prizes for apples entered in shows. He was a member of the First Methodist church.
In Oct, 1951 when Allen celebrated his 90th birthday he was visited by Cal Waggoner, then 91 and C.W. Montgomery, 93 and at that time the three men recalled early Decatur. Allen told of attending the University of Illinois in 1879 when there were only three agricultural students enrolled and his brother in law John Milton Gregory was the regent-the university first.
He was born Oct. 10, 1861 in Macon county, a son of David S.and Amanda Risque Allen and was married Sept. 8, 1887 to Mary Helen Moffett in Boody. She died Aug.18,1921 and on Dec. 26 1927 he was married to Inez Whitcraft in Decatur.
He leaves his wife, a son, Moffett B.Allen, Decatur; two daughters, Mrs. Marie A.Blakeney, Decatur, and Mrs. Lenora Blandy, N.Y. There are five grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
The Body is at Dawsons with services at 1:30 Friday and burial in the Harristown cemetery.
