Mildred Delsena Hopkins Stewart

Delsena is the daughter of Oakley Israel Hopkins and Minerva Ruth Gent. She married Floyd Harold Stewart on August 30, 1944 in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. They have three children.

Mrs. Mildred Delsena "Del" (Hopkins) Stewart. On Friday, the 1st day of November 2013, 15 days shy of the age of 90, Del was released from this earthly body to begin her eternal Heavenly life. She was living at the CHC in Republic, Mo. at the time she crossed over Jordan. Del was eager to meet her Lord and Savior, family and friends, but she was especially looking forward to reuniting with her husband Floyd.

Del was born in Wishart, Polk County, Mo., on the 16th day of November 1923, the second child of eight born to Okley Israel and Minerva Ruth (Gent) Hopkins.

She grew up on the family Polk County farm. She attended and graduated from Wishart Grade School, and Marion C. Early High School in 1941, Morrisville, Mo.

Following graduation she moved to the Kansas City area for employment prior to relocating back in Springfield, Mo., where she met Floyd Harold Steward, and they were united in marriage on Wednesday, 30th day of August 1944, in Springfield. To this union were born three sons, Gary Wayne, Ronald Dean, and Floyd Kent Stewart. As a young mother, Del trusted Jesus as the Lord of her life, and was baptized in the fall of 1945 in Terrill Creek, joining the Billings First Baptist Church, where she was active in W.M.U., children Sunbeam and Primary Bible Studies as a teacher, preparing casserole's for benevolence, and was involved in the Missions of the church, through "Circle" leadership. Del loved to sing gospel songs from the radio with Red Foley or Slim Wilson. Later Del moved her membership in 2000 to Morning Star Baptist Church, near Crane, where her son Gary is the Pastor.

Mom, grandma, Del, sis, aunt, friend, neighbor, she was a quiet, gentle laid back prayer warrior of family and church. She loved her family, and her day was about knowing all was well with her brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Confined to a wheel chair for many years, she was the one who told a grandson, "You just have to do, what you have to do!" Del was a victim of Char Marie Tooth Disease, deterioration of the muscles, and had to be moved out of the home built by her Dad, Floyd, and "Gramps, and move into the home of her son Gary, but she just kept on keeping on. Del was transferred to Christian Health and Rehab, on August 19, 2011.

Del was preceded in death by her husband, best friend, and caregiver, of 61 years, Floyd, on April 20, 2005; her parents; three brothers, Glen Eugene, Harlan, and Doyle; and a sister, Velma.

Left to cherish her memory are her three sons and their wives, Pastor Gary Wayne and Barbara (Harter) Stewart, of Billings, Mo., Rev. Ronald Dean and Gail (Lane) Stewart, St. Louis, and Floyd Kent and Jean Ann (Halford) Stewart, Springfield; a granddaughter, Lauren and husband Joseph Haik, Ozark; seven grandsons, Randal Eugene Stewart, of Billings, Patrick Stewart and wife Becky, Ft. Smith, Ark., Kevin Stewart and wife Candice, West Fork, Ark., Timothy Stewart and wife Gretchen, Jonesboro, Ark., Christopher Stewart, St. Louis, Gregory Stewart and wife Katie, Chesterfield, Mo., and Sean Stewart and wife Eleana, Conroe, Texas; 14 great granddaughters, Breana, of Fayetteville, Ark., Chelsea, Stillwater, Okla., Megan, Springfield, Abigail, Emma, Amaris, Chaella, Olivia, Sophia, and Clementine, all of Katy, Texas, Aubrey, Ozark, Lily Beth, Chesterfield, Mo., and Nyah Hope and Skye Elizabeth, both of Jonesboro, Ark; ten great grandsons, Henry, Chesterfield, Mo., Benjamin and Samuel, Jonesboro, Ark., William "Will" and Zachary, Ft. Smith, Ark., Samuel Patrick, Elijah, Jack and True, all of Katy, Texas, and Taylor Haik, Ozark; two sisters, Bonnie Kirksey, of Bolivar, Mo., and Reva Maudetta Bruhn, state of California; a brother, Stanley Hopkins and wife Barbara, Oak Grove, Mo.; nephews, Carl, Brent, Michael, and Jerry; nieces, Marsha, Tonda, Mona, Harlana, Diane, Vicki, Francine, April, and Amy; three sisters in law, Melba Bollinger, Kay Stewart, and Nadine Hopkins; other relatives and a host of friends.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2013 in Meadors Funeral Home, Billings. A celebration of Del's life will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, November 7, 2013, in the Morning Star Baptist Church, on 413 Highway, at the Butterfield Trail Rd., north of Crane, Mo., family officiating.
