Woodford Ashley and his brother James D. Ashley served the Union in Co. A of the 17th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. They were the sons of Cary Ashley and Matilda Bratcher of the 1850 Census of Grayson County, Kentucky. By 1860 they were living in Cromwell, Ohio County, Kentucky.

Woodford was buried in Barnett's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with a military marker showing his unit. There was no date of birth or date of death shown for him. Census records show he was born about 1838. He is said to have died in March of 1881. Any additions and/or correction to this memorial would be greatly appreciated.
