The funeral for James Albert Wright, 78, formerly of 36 Maple St., will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas H. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Foxwood Memorial Park, Ogdensburg.
Mr. Wright died Thursday evening at United Helpers Nursing Home, Ogdensburg, where he had been a resident since Jan. 16, 1996.
Mr. Wright worked at the Aluminum Company of America planning department, Massena, from 1948 until his retirement in 1980.
Born Jan. 20, 1919, in Waddington, son of James and Ella Hodge Wright , he graduated from Waddington High School and received an associate degree in business agriculture from Canton Agricultural and Technical Institute. He served in the Army from June 24, 1941, to March 17, 1943.
He married Marjorie Duprey Jan. 17, 1942 at the United Methodist Church.
Mr. Wright was a lifelong member and a former secretary of the Waddington United Methodist Church and a life member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite.
Mr. Wright was a past master and secretary of Waddington Grange 980 and the Waddington Masonic Lodge 393. He was a former district deputy grand master of the Second St. Lawrence Mason District, president and member of the Madrid-Waddington Central School Board, president of the St. Lawrence County Magistrate Association and president and secretary of the St. Lawrence Supervisor Association.
He was a member of the Waddington American Legion Post 420 and was town justice and a town board member of Waddington for 28 years and served as town supervisor for 15 years.
Mr. Wright was a former chairman of the St. Lawrence City Solid Waste Disposal Authority and the St. Lawrence County Health Board. He was a former administrator for the village of Waddington Waterfront Revitalization Project and the town of Waddington Beach Project. He was also a former vice president and treasurer of the North Country Insurance Co-op.
Surviving besides his wife, are four sons, and nine grandchildren.
A brother, Ivan, died before him.
