SHANAHAN (OBRIEN), Mary Lou, born January 6, 1927, in Ipswich, South Dakota on her grandmother Kellys farm. Parents Albert Alfred and Lou OBrien. She had one sibling, Suzanne (OBrien) Baterhorst. She moved to Barlington, Wyoming in 1945; there she graduated high school. She then entered the U.S. Cadet Nursing Corps and was a diploma graduate of St. Vincent, school of Nursing in Billings, Montana. In 1951, she moved to Sacramento, Calif. There she worked at Sutte General, Sutte Memorial. She married Thomas Arthur Shanahan in 1952, at Mather Air Force Base Chapel. She is survived by, son, Thomas Fred (wife Patricia) who had five children, Robyn, Erica, Russell, Jaime, and Rebecca, son, Brian Edward who had three children, Christine Grace, Kimberly Renee, and Justin, son, Mark Wayne who had one son, Kyle. She is also survived by LaVone Piesik family of Orange County, and all the monks at St. Andrews Abbey of Valyermo. One of her big delights was in 1982, when they went to Ireland (Co Mayo). A visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., with a rosary at 5:30 p.m., Friday, June 19, 2009, at Chapel of the Valley Mortuary in Palmdale. A Funeral Mass will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, June 20, 2009, at St. Andrews Abbey in Valyermo with interment to follow at the St. Andrews Abbey Cemetery. If you will be attending the reception please contact St. Andrews Abbey at (661) 944-2178. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Andrews Abbey.
