1816- Married on Feb 18th in Portland: Maj. Joseph How and Elizabeth Douglass, born in New London, CT on Jul 8, 1790 by Rev. Elijah Kellogg , clergyman of Portland. (Militia rank of Major ?).

1820 Birth of daughter, Abigail (Abby) Caroline How born in Portland on July 30, 1820.

1820- Death notice in the 'Columbian Sentinel' published on Aug 12th in Massachusetts: Col. Joseph How, died in Portland, age 29. Militia membership rank of Colonel.

1828- On Aug 31st in Portland: Marriage of Samuel Holbrook to Elizabeth How, both of Portland by Rev. Asa Cummings, clergyman of Portland.

1837 - Portland, Maine City Directory - His home listed as 'Corner of State & Spring Streets. (Which is near the 3 'How' brick waterfront houses).

1860 Federal Census for Portland, Cumberland, Maine: Elizabeth Holbrook, age 56, value of real estate: $2000, value of personal estate: $500, born in CT (Samuel not listed).

Note: there is a possibility that this Samuel Holbrook is the one listed as Memorial ID 92010656. He lived 1777-1849 which would coincide with his not being listed qith Elizabeth in 1850 and 1860 census. His (1st) wife, Hannah, died in 1820. As he was born in Lebanon, New London, Connecticut, the same county and state that Elizabeth was from, there is a possibility of a long friendship.
