Death came suddenly Wednesday Morning to Clarence Procter Grimes, 60, a Cashmere pioneer who came to the valley 38 years ago. Causes of his death was thought to be heart failure as he was apparently in good health otherwise. Grimes was born in Kankakee, Ill., March 25, 1879 and came to Cashmere in 1901. He worked here on the construction of the Highline ditch and was a ditch walker for a number of years. He also worked for the Icicle Ditch company. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Della Grimes, three sons, Elmer, Bruce and Howard, all of Cashmere, five brothers, Howard of Spokane, Claire James Gleason of Chambers, Nebr., and Jay of Douglas, Wyo., and one sister, Mrs. Marguerite Brittell of O'Neill, Nebr. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 pm from the Kuelbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Raimge officiating. Pall Bearers will be AC Jones, GP Eisele, Guy Long, HL Fife, Will Doss and Fred Abeling. Interment will be in the Cashmere cemetery.

Clarence Grimes came to this community from Illinois with his parents wheee he grew to manhood. At the age of 22 he left here and settled at Cashmere where he made his home the rest of his life. Many old timers knew Clarence in his younger days and were saddened to hear of his death.
