Mildred G. Schermerhorn, 68, of 3035 Sierra Villas Drive, Tuscon, Ariz., and the VanRensselaer Road, died Monday evening at St. Mary's Hospice in Tuscon.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be held in Foxwood Memorial Park.
Surviving are her husband, Adgate; two sons, two grandchildren, and a sister.
Born in Heuvelton Oct. 17, 1919, a daughter of Frank and Hazel Barter George, she was graduated from Heuvelton High School. In 1940, she was graduated from Potsdam Normal School and later received her master's degree from St. Lawrence University. She also did additional graduate work in reading education at Syracuse University.
She married Adgate B. Schermerhorn June 17, 1943.
During her 30-year career in education, Mrs. Schermerhorn served as teacher, reading supervisor and elementary supervisor at various times at Brier Hill, Harrisville, Keesville, Canton, Heuvelton, Ogdensburg and Morristown Central schools.
After retiring, she was active in the Ogdensburg Garden Club and the Duplicate Bridge Club. She also won many ribbons for driving Shetland and Hackney ponies in New York and Ontario horse shows.
