Judith Ann "Judy" Dixon
Birth: Jan. 2, 1942
Centralia
Marion County
Illinois, USA
Death: Mar. 31, 1942
Tonti
Marion County
Illinois, USA

Judith was my little sister. I was only 2 1/2 when she died and barely remember her.I only had one physical contact with her. I do remember asking to help put her yellow booties on. My mother was concerned that I would hurt her but my Aunt Thelma said "Leave her alone Bonnie she's being careful". Judy was a SIDS baby. Mother thought she died as the result of a difficult high forceps delivery. I think she died from forgetting to breath. Dad found her dead in her crib one morning. After that Mother found it hard to be outwardly affectionate to me and I understand that she feared the loss of her only remaining child.
Mom's family were not "touchy feely" kind of people. They did not give hugs or verbal praise;although they were a tightly bonded group of individuals who stood together through thick and thin. They never said "I love you", gave praise or hugged. I was raised as an only child and felt like one till I found Find A Grave and so many nice people have put tokens on Judy's site. I always believed, and so did my mother, that she was buried in a grave donated by some friends of the family. Mama was told we could not afford to buy a plot. The coffin was lined with pink silk. A few years ago I found out by talking to the people who maintain the cemetery that we owned the grave plus the 5 others in the plot. The original owner and his wife are buried in plots 1 and 2 (died 1946 and 1986) while Judy is in #3. The cemetery people told me the children of the original couple buried in 1 and 2 tried to bury a relative in plot 4 only to have the cemetery move her when they went to record the burial and discovered Dad was the owner. He had died 10 years previous to this leaving me the unknown owner of 6 plots in Illinois. The cemetery did not know about me until I called them about installing my sister's marker. The poor lady had to be dug up and buried elsewhere in the cemetery. Talk about a shock. I think my chin may have actually dropped and hit the table. Felt like it. Know my mouth was hanging open.

It has taken me years to accept her presence into my life. The only picture of her was one of her in her coffin. My heartfelt thanks to all the caring and very special people who acknowledge her brief existence.

I now have her marker installed and her birth and death certificates straightened out so she is officially a person.

THANK YOU TO JANE EUBANKS FOR SPONSORING JUDY. I KNOW MOTHER WOULD HAVE BEEN SO PLEASED THAT A KIND AND GENEROUS PERSON SPONSORED HER BELOVED DAUGHTER.
