His brother-in-law's team got stalled so Charles took this team from his load to help pull the other load out. In passing the other load a stick stuck his horse in the flank. It kicked with both feet striking him in the stomach. They brought him home and the doctors did all they could but peritonitis set in and he passed away leaving his wife and one child..."
