Florence Lucy Ayers 11 November 1913-27 June 1945
Florence Lucy Williams Ayers was born November 11, 1913 on the Williams Brothers Ranch, 5 miles west of Norwood, Colorado. She was the 4th child of David W. and Phoebe M. Williams. She began her education at Coventry and there completed grade school in 1927. She attended Norwood High School and graduated with the class of 1931 with a scholarship. She was active in 4-h club work and won several trophies for sewing and cooking. After finishing high school she enrolled as a student at Western State College, Gunnison, Colorado. In 1933 she completed a 2 year course and was eligible to teach in the public schools of Colorado. The years of 1933-35 were spent teaching school at Cedar, Colorado, Hastings Mesa, Sanborn Park, and Telluride. She then returned to school at Western State and received a life certificate to teach. On November 28, 1936 she was married to Homer G. Ayers at Silverton, Colorado. To this union were born two children, David Geo., 7 1/2 years old and Carol Ann, 4. The family lived at Alma, Colorado, Telluride and Silverton, where Mrs. Ayers was employed as a technician , operator of motion picture machines, also as a miner. During the year 1939-1940 Mrs. Ayers taught school at Shenandoah. In 1942 Mr. Ayers found employment at the puget Sound Navy Yard. After a few months Mrs. Ayers joined her husband in Bremerton, Washington, where they lived until her death. She had been in ill health for about 3 1/2 years. Her sister, May, lived with her and helped her. She had an operation of the stomach on June 17, which was unsuccessful and another operation was necessary. She died shortly after.
