William H. Powers, 72, Black Lake Road, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday at United Helpers Nursing Home, where he had been a resident since June 29.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fox Funeral Home with the Rev. Bernard W. Fortune, retired minister, officiating. Burial with full military honors performed by members of the 10th Mountain Division will be at Foxwood Memorial Park.

Surviving are his wife, a son, three daughters, a sister, 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Two sisters, Thelma McDougal, and Laura LaMont, died previously.

Born May 13, 1923, at Hammond, son of Nelson and Alice Hicks Powers, he attended Morristown schools and served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations.

He married Joyce M. Frederick on Aug. 11, 1945, at the Morristown Methodist Church with the Rev. Wesley Baker officiating.

The couple resided at their home on Black Lake Road for 15 years.

Mr. Powers worked for the former George Hall Corp. and Ogdensburg stone quarry, and last was employed by Stella Cheese Co.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and particularly enjoyed vegetable gardening.
