She was married twice, to Frank R. Brandes and Boyed Penfield. She also had a serious relationship with Harold Miller, which resulted in the birth of Joyce.

She was a housewife, and an exceptional seamstress, a wonderful cook, she canned everything, even made root beer. She truly had a green thumb - people stopped to see her plants in the big window at 15 Avenue 42 in what is now Marina del Rey (the NE corner of Ketch & Speedway).
She did work off and on over the years. She was a "Practical Nurse" at one time (I think today's equivalent would be an aide or nursing assistant), she had a certificate or diploma. She worked for the "Red Car" street car line in the mid 40's. She also worked in several dry cleaning establishments in the Venice area over the years.
After nearly 55 years, Jean has finally been marked (04-04-2011). Thank you, Frank, Joyce and family, Ryan, and Kim.
