Birth: Jan. 5, 1855
Mississippi, USA
Death: May 11, 1905
Saline County
Arkansas, USA

My great-great-grandmother was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Lett. Her first marriage was to Henry D. Morton. They were married about 1873 and he died before 1880.

She moved with her inlaws to Paris, Lamar County, Texas and can be found with them on the 1880 census with her daughters Armenda Jane, Ardella J. and Henry T. Morton.

Prior to the 1880 census, she had already met her second husband, Luther Alexander Grimes, a widower with two sons. They were married 20 June 1880 in Paris, Texas.

Before they moved to Saline County, Arkansas they lost her daughter Ardella and his son Scott, circumstances unknown.

Together Caroline and Luther had three more children - Lula, Sarah Margaret and William Luther.

All their children were grown and married, or had moved or died when Luther A. Grimes died in 1894.

She had moved back to Paris, Texas and was there for the 1900 census with Lula, Sarah, William and her older stepson James M. Grimes. Evidently she returned to Saline County, where she is found on the records as marrying on 26 December 1901, Henry David Carson, a widower with grown children.

County records show that Margaret Caroline died in Saline County 11 May 1905.

Family information passed down says she is buried in the "Oliver" cemetery, but recently discovered that the Old Rosemont was once called the Oliver Cemetery. From an original transcription comes this information: "History: The Old Rosemont Cemetery was formerly known as the Ransom Thompson Cemetery.... the land was later owned by W. J.
Oliver who began laying off and selling lots. The first lot was sold in the 1840s.... the Northern section of the cemetery was owned by Mrs. Sena McNeil and it too was laid off and sold in lots."

Her grave is unmarked and the exact location within the cemetery is unknown.
