Margaret S. "Peg" Nelson, 70, Oak Point Road, died Friday morning at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, where she had been a patient since Oct. 14.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Fox Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas T. Patterson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Ogdensburg, officiating. Burial will be in Foxwood Memorial Park, Ogdensburg.
Surviving are a sister, and several nieces and nephews.
Born Sept. 20, 1922, in Plainfield, N.J., daughter of Arthur J. and Linda Morrison Spicer , she moved with her family to Greenwood, Del., and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1940. She then attended the University of Delaware and moved in 1942 to Elizabeth, N.J., where she worked for three years at the Esso Standard Oil Co.
She married Robert C. Nelson May 8, 1946, in Elizabeth. The couple moved to Staten Island, where they lived for 38 years. Mr. Nelson was an electronics inventor and inspector of electronic guidance systems for the Federal Aviation Administration.
Mrs. Nelson worked for the S.S. White Co. in New York City, a firm which electroplated diamond dental drills. She was then employed by the city of New York for 26 years, first as a laboratory aide. After a series of civil service promotional exams, she became a senior biochemist, a position she held when she retired in 1977.
In 1977, she and her husband purchased a cottage on the St. Lawrence River in the town of Morristown, where they lived six months of the year. In 1984, they bought a year-round home on the Oak Point Road. Mr. Nelson died Oct. 20, 1991. Mrs. Nelson continued to live on Oak Point Road until becoming hospitalized in October.
Mrs. Nelson enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting and sewing.
