Barbara Jean King, 68, of Decatur passed away Monday, June 1, 2009.
Funeral will be Thursday, June 4, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Haskel Adamson officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Barbara was born March 30, 1941, in Morgan County to A.B. and Mavo Mayfield. In 1965, she met and married John Waymon and began a loving marriage that lasted until the time of her death. Barbara received her dental hygienist license in 1964 and embarked on a 40-plus year career in the dental profession. In March of this year, after 28 years of joyful employment, she retired from the office of Dr. Ed Kirby where she had worked as office manager. She leaves behind countless friends and co-workers she loved dearly over the years.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa Charlyn Blaxton; parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Mayfield; brother, Frank Ronald Mayfield; and sister, Helen Ruth Legg Bain.
Survivors include her husband, John Waymon King; one daughter, Kerri Dawn Bracken and her husband, Scott, three grandchildren, Alex, Cameron and Katie; one son, John Brandon King and his wife, Dana, two step-children, Jacob Dockery and Ashlei Dockery; two sisters, Betty Adamson (Haskel) and Rhonda Jo Bogle; one brother, Teddy Mayfield (Renae); seven nieces and seven nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kell Hargitt, Joey Eskridge, Brent Standridge, John England, Mark Mayfield and Matthew Phillips.
Many thanks and prayers go out to Dr. Weirich, Dr. Charlie Scott, and the kind and compassionate nurses of Hospice of the Valley.
