Velma Faye (Awbrey) Rosamond, 91, of Lurton, went to be with her heavenly Father, Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison, AR. The daughter of Johnny L. and Mary Gertrude Ray Awbrey, she was born August 23, 1917 in Gas City, Kansas.
She was a member of the Ben Hur Free Will Baptist Church. She loved God's beautiful creation of the Ozark Mountains. She and Vernon loved traveling, sightseeing and enjoying new country and sights. They were treated to a trip to Hawaii by their children on their Golden Anniversary in 1985. She loved all nature, especially flowers, gardening and birds, including the hundreds of hummingbirds she fed at least twice a day, every summer. She loved her family and church family and friends.
Vernon and Velma moved the family of 9 children to Oneta, Oklahoma in 1955, then, when he retired in 1976, they were able to move back to their beautiful home in the mountains. Velma gave her life to the Lord at 6 years of age and lived a wonderful Christian life until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Vernon Ephriam Rosamond and by her parents; brother, Vern Awbrey; sister, Freida Awbrey; brother-in-law, Joe Auer; daughter-in-law, Ruth Rosamond; son-in-law, Roy Caddell;great grandson, Johnathon Rosamond; grandson-in-law, Rod Hefley.
Velma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor who leaves behind five sons, Dale Rosamond & wife Rose of Wagoner, Oklahoma,Don Rosamond of Coweta, Oklahoma, Vernon Rosamond, Jr. & wife Sharon of Tucson, Arizona, Johnny Rosamond & wife Tonya of Owasso, Oklahoma, Jim Rosamond of Pelsor; four daughters, Audrey Smith of Olathe, Kansas, Barbara Barnard & husband Larry of Pelsor, Hazel Caddell of Haskell, Oklahoma, Wanda Brown & husband Tom of Haskell, Oklahoma; 31 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Gregoire & husband Louis of Pelsor, Oma Auer of Blackburn, Missouri; brother, Wilman "Bill" Awbrey & wife Sue of Clarksville; sister-in-law, Lucille Awbrey of Jasper.
Funeral service will be at 1:00PM, Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Humphrey Chapel with Pastor Stan Taylor and Brother Jeremy Carlton officiating. Burial will be at Tarlton Cemetery at Lurton, under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
Visitation will be 6:00 Pm to 7:00 Pm, on Friday, at the funeral home.
