John Burr was born in March of 1670 at Hartford. He was the son of Samuel Burr & Mary Baysey. His wife's name was most likely Sarah Nichols. They were married about 1691, probably in Hartford. They had twelve children, all born in Hartford. Sometime after 1715, John moved his family to Wintonbury, Connecticut. John Burr died on May 5, 1741 at Wintonbury, without writing a will. Wintonbury Church Records, "John Burr died May 5, 1741, age about 71." On September 21, 1741, his heirs settled his estate. The agreement was signed by wife Sarah; sons Ebenezer, John, Stephen, Noahdiah, Gideon and Nathaniel; daughters Thankful and her husband Ephram Brown, Sarah and her husband Joseph Gillette, Miraim and her husband Nathaniel Case, and Eunice and her husband Samuel Case. Although John's burial is not recorded in the Old Wintonbury Cemetery, and there is no headstone for him in that cemetery, he is certainly buried there, because it is the only cemetery in Wintonbury that was active at that time.
