NAPPANEE — Lois Marie (Carl) Slabaugh, 94, of Nappanee, passed away peacefully at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, at Elkhart Hospice House.

She was born July 8, 1921, in Elkhart County, to Floyd and Bessie (George) Carl.

On Sept. 26, 1938, she married Ernest A. Slabaugh in Nappanee. He preceded her in death Sept. 11, 2007.

Mrs. Slabaugh was a lifetime resident of Nappanee. She attended Brown School, which was a part of the Nappanee Rural School System. Mrs. Slabaugh had been employed by the city of Nappanee as the crossing guard at Central Elementary School for 22 years (1962-1984). She was an avid antique collector and an interior design consultant. Lois was an immaculate housekeeper, both in her home and outdoors. All who knew her will miss her and cherish the memories they have of her.

Surviving are her children, Mikel Slabaugh and Kimberly (David) Ingle, both of Nappanee; grandchildren Mark (Rhonda) Ingle and Matt (Tracy) Ingle, both of Nappanee, Lori (Mike) Ryan of Granger, Lisa (Dan) Kim of Goshen and Shane (Shanna) Maust of Milford; 11 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and brother Bill (Jerry) Carl of Phoenix, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by daughter Karole Maust; sons Danny, Billy and Jody Slabaugh; sister Opal Weygand; and brothers Frank and Jack Carl.

Mrs. Slabaugh will be cremated. Memorial services will be at the Slabaugh Family Monument in South Union Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to Elkhart Hospice House.

The family wishes to thank Hospice House and the sixth floor medical team at Elkhart General Hospital for the professional and courteous manner in which they performed their duties in regards to Lois' overall care.
