Linda Wehrle, 65, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away peacefully, Friday, March 18, 2011 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri, following a valiant three-year struggle with ovarian cancer.

Linda was born Nov. 24, 1945 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the daughter of Emmett Wesley and Betty Lou (Slaback) Bower.

She grew up in Chanute, Kansas, graduating from Chanute High School in 1963. She attended Neosho County Community College, worked a short time for Hallmark Cards, Kansas City, Mo., and entered Wichita State University, graduating in 1969 with a B.S. in Biology/Chemistry. She graduated in 1970 from St Francis Hospital Med Tech with a BS in Medical Technology.

She married Byron Yost in 1969. They were later divorced

She married David R. Wehrle in 1986. He preceded her in death July 27, 1999.

She worked in Microbiology for about 30 years (15 years of it in Colorado) and retired three years ago after 15 years at Baptist and Research Hospitals.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave; and her parents, Emmett and Betty Lou Bower of Chanute, KS.

She is survived by sister, Judy Pigue and brother-in-law Bill of Raytown, MO; one niece, Cynthia Robinson, of Scottsdale, AZ; one uncle, W. Fred Bower of Chanute, KS; and one aunt, Jessie (Kanive) Bower of Gresham, OR; and a host of cousins and friends.

She loved the outdoors and nature; scuba diving, skiing, jogging, hiking, bicycling, and gardening. She participated in Corporate Challenge in track events, winning many medals.

She was an active member in the Joey Klein Institute of Transformational Studies, VegKC, The Sierra Club, and KC Cactus & Succulent Society. She was also a volunteer for Hospice and Cancer Action.

She had the love and support of many, many good friends.

Linda's family would like to express their appreciation of Kansas City Hospice House's wonderful staff for their loving care during her final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Simpson House, 4509 Walnut St., Kansas City, MO.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute, Kansas.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Cancer Action or Kansas City Hospice House.

Charter Funerals, Kansas City, MO is in charge of arrangements.
