Spc. (E-4) Chad A. Edmundson, 20, of Williamsburg, Pennsylvania, was a 2008 graduate of Williamsburg Community Senior High in Blair County. He was a very polite young man, always making sure to say hello to anyone he passed by, stopping to talk. Making other people happy made him happy. He held a lot of respect for others. Chad was adventurous, enjoying skateboarding, fishing, camping, and golfing. He was an expert chess player and talented artist. He joined the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in January 2007 while still in high school. Chad was very patriotic and felt enlisting in the military would guide him to a better life. He completed basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He deployed to Iraq in January 2009 assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 112th Infantry, 56th Stryker Brigade, Pennsylvania Army National Guard. He died May 27 in Baghdad of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit while on a dismounted patrol. His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Medal with "M" device, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Chad was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Chad is survived by his father, Roy A. and his wife, Sherry, with whom he resided; his mother, Karen L. (nee Craw) Cornell of rural Everett; two sisters: Jessica Miller of Enola and Stephanie Foor at home; three brothers: Alex at home and Timothy and Benjamin Cornell, both of Bedford; his fiancee, Jessica A. Welch, Altoona; his grandparents: Donna Edmundson of Hollidaysburg and Vernon Craw of Altoona; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, George B. Edmundson, and his grandmother, Hermie Craw. {Bio written by Sue}
