Following the death of Georgia Moody Barnard in 1908, Ellis married his second wife Hattie Mae McKenzie on Jan 5, 1913. They had the following children:

Lillian Barnard 1921-1988
Ellis L. Barnard died in 1924 of a heart attack. He and his family were living in Waycross, GA at the time. He was 45 years old.

E.L.BARNARD PASSES AWAY MONDAY AFTER A SHORT ILLNESS
E.L. Barnard, 45, died at his residence 1121 Church street, Monday morning following a short illness. He is survived by his wife, two sons, D.L and Grady of Waverton, four daughters, Ruth, Lonnie May, Florine, and Lizzie; four brothers, Ben, of Evans Co., Dan and A.C. of Blackshear and Lonnie, of near Waycross, father, J.B. Barnard, of Waycross. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Wesley Chapel in Bacon County near Alma, Ga. Interment was in Wesley cemetery. H.Lester Marvil, funeral director, was in charge of arrangements.
