According to the 1940 U.S. Census, Albert Kulba was 17 years old and lived at 310 Niagara St. in Syracuse, NY where his family rented an apartment. Albert was listed as "step-son". The head of the household was Michael Marusiak, 39 years old and born in Poland. His wife, Albert's mother, was Theresa (nee Robich) Marusiak, 39 years old, and born in New York in 1899. She died in 1978 and is buried in Saint John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Syracuse, NY.

According to U.S. Army enlistment records, Albert J Kulba, born in New York in 1922, was a "Selectee" who enlisted in the Army on October 14, 1942 in Syracuse, NY in the "Warrant Officers" Branch. His Army Serial Number was 32545379. At the time of enlistment he was single, had no dependents, completed 4 Years of High School education and showed "Semiskilled Occupations in Mechanical Treatment of Metals, N.E.C" as a civilian occupation.

During his wartime service, Albert attained the rank of Staff Sergeant assigned to the 14th Air Force.

According to Missing Air Crew Report (MACR) 305 he was a Radio Operator, aboard B-25D Mitchell #41-30458 on November 7, 1943. His aircraft was downed, from unknown cause, after departing Chabua Air Base, India, for a ferrying mission over the "Hump" to Kumming, China. The men on the aircraft were:

1st Lt. Winthrop P Sears, Pilot, Reading, Pa.
2nd Lt. Gerald Breckenridge, Co-Pilot, Hollywood, Ca.
2nd Lt. James K Daniel, Passenger (10th AF), Torrance, Ca.

He is listed as one of 91 men listed on the Pulaski Park memorial in Syracuse, New York unveiled on May 30, 1949, "Dedicated to Those Americans of Polish Descent Who Died for God and Country, Roll of Honor, World War II, 1941 - 1945." His name is inscribed on the east face of memorial, as "ALBERT J. KULBA."
