Michael (Van) Buskirk was the son of Isaac and Jerusha (Littell) Van Buskirk. He married Elizabeth (Bilderback) Buskirk.
His many accomplishments are outlined on his gravestone:
"He emigrated west in early life; was a soldier in the war of 1811 & 12; was one of the first settlers of Monroe Co. Ind; was one of its first Co. Commissioners; Helped to organise the Co. and locate the Co. seat; was afterwards associate judge for seven years."
Michael bought land in Monroe County in April of 1820. He did not move to Tippecanoe County until after 1850.
Michael's gravestone was one of three stones shattered when a car drove through the cemetery in December of 2008. The photos show the meticulous cleaning, repairing and resetting of the stone.
