OBITUARY: Daphne Jemmett

BLACKFOOT - Daphne Jemmett, 89, Blackfoot died April 25, 1987, at her home of causes incident to age. She was born Nov. 5, 1897, at Fillmore, Utah, daughter of Francis Adelbert and Martha Carling Webb.

Her early childhood was spent in Fillmore and Orderville, Utah. In 1904 the family moved to Idaho. She married Clifford Jemmett on June 16, 1913. After their marriage they lived in the cove on the Blackfoot River and then
moved to a homestead near Cedar Creek, Idaho. They operated the Alridge Star Route Post Office from their home for almost 30 years. Then consolidation closed the Mountain School, and they moved to Blackfoot with their two youngest children.

Mrs. Jemmett was a newspaper reporter, working for The Post-Register and for Blackfoot and Pocatello newspapers. She published a collection of her poems in 1978. She was a member of the LDS Church, the Idaho Writers League and Ee-dah-how Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

Survivors are her husband, Clifford of Blackfoot; five sons, George Jemmett of Gibbonsville, Henry Jemmett of Arimo, Les Jemmett of Nampa, Joe Jemmett of Boise, and Bill Jemmett of Blackfoot; three daughters, Lois Brown of Blackfoot, Mrs. Fred (Alma) Reid of Presto, and Mrs. Luke (Deanne) Hines of Idaho Falls; 40 grandchildren; and 110 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, six brothers and a sister. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Blackfoot LDS Third Ward Church, 845 Grant St. conducted by Bishop Ben H. Call. Family will meet friends at the Hill-Sandberg Funeral Home Tuesday from 7-9 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery at Shelley.
