Josephine was the daughter of Adam Halboth and Barbara Haefner. She married John Schnuckel on Jan 29, 1885. They were the parents of Martha, Ida, Fred, Charles, John, Henry, and Julia.

The Odebolt Chronicle - Thu, Apr 30, 1936 - Death has again entered a home in this vicinity and taken a loved mother and pioneer resident. Mrs Josephine Schnuckel passed away at her home east of town at 12 noon Monday, April 27, 1936 after a long illness.

Mrs Schnuckel has been in failing health for several years but has been able to be around until January. Since that time she has been confined to her bed most of the time. Her death was due to a complication of ailments some of which were of several years standing.

Memorial services will be held this afternoon at the house and at the Methodist church. She will be laid to rest in the local cemetery by the side of her husband and children. Those who will bear her body to its last resting place by her own request will be her three sons: Fred, Charles, and John Schnuckel, two grandsons, Marvin Mauer and David Maples, and Norman Oxendale.

Josephine Dorothy Halboth, daughter of the late Adam and Barbara Halboth, was born at West Brooklyn, Lee County, Illinois March 8, 1864. At her death she had reached the age of 72 years, one month, and 19 days.

She grew to womanhood in Illinois and Jan 29, 1885 was united in marriage with Fred John Schnuckel at Mendota, LaSalle county, IL. In March 1887 the young couple came to Sac County which has since been the home of Mrs Schnuckel living on the homestead 3 miles east of town. The husband died in 1898 leaving the wife and mother to rear her family alone. She was the mother of 7 children. Henry Lewis died in infancy in May 1897, the year prior to the death of the husband.

Two daughters, Martha, wife of Crockett David Maples and Julia died Dec 8, 1918 during the dread epidemic of influenza.

Those who are left to mourn are one daughter and three sons: Mrs Ida Mauer and Fred of Odebolt, and Charles and John of Wall Lake. Three grandchildren: Helen Mauer and David Maples of Odebolt, and Marvin Mauer at present of Des Moines are also left to mourn.

There are two sisters and three brothers: A.L. Halboth of Odebolt; Benj Halboth of Akeley, MN; Julius of Mapleton; and Mrs Henrietta Brucker and Mrs Rose Volz of Arthur.

Contributed - Josephine D Halboth, daughter of Adam Halboth and Barbara Haefner, married John F Schnuckel on January 29th, 1885. To this union seven children were born: Martha 1886-1918; Ida Henrietta 1889-1980; Frederick William 1891-1975; Charles Adam 1892-1893; John Benjamin 1894-1974; Henry L 1896-1897; and Julia C 1898-1918.

John died in March 7, 1898 leaving Josephine with four small children and one on the way. Julia was born after her father's death in 1898. Josephine lost Martha and Julia within an hour of each other on December 8th, 1918. They died from complications of the Spanish influenza.
