John C. "Jack," Sheehe, 87, of Altoona died Sunday. Jack was born in Indiana, Pa., the son of the late Thomas and Martha (Hatherill) Sheehe. He married Lois M. Leitenberger July 13, 1953, in Johnstown. He was the last surviving member of the 13 children in his family. He was retired as a sales manager from General Motors Acceptance Corp. after 30 years of service. Jack was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish. In his youth, Jack was an excellent athlete when he attended public school in Indiana, Pa. He was attending Slippery Rock State Teachers' College on an athletic scholarship when World War II began. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and was a highly decorated veteran. He flew 45 combat missions in a B-24 heavy bomber with the 13th Air Force in the South Pacific Theater. After the war, Jack finished college at Penn State University. He earned a degree in health and human development in 1949. While at Penn State, he was a middleweight boxer for three years. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Jack was a devoted father and grandfather. Surviving are his two sons: Bruce (Pamela) of Altoona and William (Ann) of Cherry Hill, N.J., and two grandchildren: Jill and Clark of Altoona. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, and 12 siblings. Visitation will be at the convenience of the family. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church by Father James Crookston. Committal at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Stevens Mortuary Inc.
