Robert was born about 1 May 1791 based on his age at death (84 years, 4 months & 25 days). He was the son of Matthias and Elizabeth (Chambers) Mount of Nottingham Twp., old Burlington Co. (now Hamilton Twp., Mercer Co.), NJ. He is thought to have been named for his grandfather and/or uncle Robert Chambers; however, documentation of his full name has not been found. He married Elizabeth A. Combs before 1814/15, when their first child was born.

Robert was a farmer in Nottingham/Hamilton Twp. and was listed there in censuses from 1830 to 1870. In his father's will (1837), he was devised "the Barren tract" adjoining lands of David Hutchinson, James Mount and others. In the will, his father also released from a "certain Note" held against Robert. He appears to have had considerable land holdings based on the value of his real estate as reported in the census returns. Nevertheless, he died without a will himself.

Robert and his wife Elizabeth had at least seven children, as follows:

1) Stephen, born 1814/15--linked below;
2) John S., born about Nov. 1821--linked below;
3) Ezekiel C., born about 1821--linked below;
4) apparently another son, born 1815/25;
5) Richard, born about 1826;
6) Louisa Malvina, born about 1831--linked below; and
7) Jane E., born about 1837.

Note: Abram Mount (1835-1915), memorial 19766018, was previously, incorrectly linked to Robert C. Mount as a son. Abraham's Pennsylvania death certificate identifies his parents as Robert Mount and Elizabeth Starker. He was living in Lebanon Twp., Hunterdon Co., NJ, in 1850, with two younger Mounts (probably siblings) in the household of Abraham and Mary Lungher/Langher. There is no evidence to connect Abram with Robert C. Mount of Hamilton Twp., Mercer Co., NJ.
