Oliver was born in Jamestown, NY to Joseph Sutherland Carpenter and Emily Blowers. He was one of seven children. He met and married Amy Etta Kirk in 1891 in Iowa. They had four children before Etta died at a young age. They are William Duane, Emily Rebecca, Hannah Alice & Oliver Kirk. His 2nd wife was Mabel Inez Mulligan who survived him. He worked as a Mechanical Engineer. He was a beloved son, brother,husband,father and grandfather.
