He was born May 28, 1922 in Springfield to George William and Dorothy Earl Bale. George married Mary Alice Dodds on Nov. 7, 1942, in Springfield. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2009.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Charlotte Biesenthal and Margaret Biesenthal; and a brother, Bill Bale.
George is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Ann Maloney; a son, George Evan Bale; seven grandchildren, Pam (Joe) Alwan, Cindy (John) Morris, Tom (Erin) Maloney, Chad (Carrie) Bale, Justin Bale, John (Tiffany Bauman) Bale and Kira (Jason Kukla) Bale; 13 great-grandchildren, Mason Alwan, Caitlin Alwan, Matt Alwan, Jordan Morris, Taylor Morris, Merrick Maloney, Aidan Maloney, Dillon Bale, Dustin Bale, Annabella Bale, Haley Bale, Kaleb Bale and Madelyn Bale; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He served as a medic in the Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943 through 1946.
Upon coming home, he was a lifelong farmer in the Auburn area, sold Pioneer Seed Corn and was a chemical salesman.
Burial was in Cumberland Sugar Creek Cemetery in Glenarm, Illinois.
