The son of Ansel Jackson & Lucy Moore, Reuben's family moved to Jefferson County when he was a small child. He was first married Susan Melvina Huckleberry, and to this union were born the following: Edmond Ancel Jackson, born about 1847; Mary Ann Jackson, born about 1849; Lucy Melvina Jackson, born about 1851; Reuben C Jackson, born November 1853; James Albert Jackson, born 24 Dec 1855; Arminda Elizabeth Jackson, born 22 Feb 1858; John Tell Jackson, born about 1860; Laura Mae Jackson, born about 1862; and Samuel E Jackson, born 11 Mar 1865.

Reuben, Susan, and their children were enumerated in the 1850 and 1860 census residing in Washington Co., Illinois. After he death in 1866, he married Elizabeth Jane Huckleberry who was the sister of his first wife and daughter of Edmund D. & Mary W. (Daily). She was born on 25 Dec 1836 in Indiana and prior to her marriage to Reuben, had married Michael Oscar Sloat/Slote who had died on 06 Mar 1868.

Reuben and Elizabeth were enumerated in the 1900 census for Meridian Twp., Clinton Co., IL. They were the parents of three children: Willis B Jackson, born 22 Jan 1870; Robert Jackson, born about 1871; and Alta Belle Jackson who was born 26 Jun 1873 and was the wife of William Beadle. Elizabeth died on 04 Jul 1900 in Washington Co., IL and is believed to be buried in Little Zion Cemetery.
