Wife of Berend Jans Grooters married on 4 Feb 1872 in Grand Rapids, MI. Daughter of Pieter Minnes Visser and Lydia Gerbens Calsbeek. Came to America in 1854. Settled in Holland, MI and later came to Sioux County, IA, with her husband.

Obituary: Boyden Reporter, 26 Oct 1900, p. 4, Col 1: Her obit states that the family came to the US from the Netherlands in 1852. After a stay of three years in New Jersey and New York, the Visser family came to Vriesland, Mich. where Mr. Visser opened a cobbler shop. It was here, at the cobblers bench, that Jennie received her instruction in the ruidments of reading and writing. Married on Feb. 1, 1872 with B.J.Grooters of Grand Rapids, MI by the Rev. C. Vander Mulen. After a two week stay with parents and friends of the bride the newly married couple came to the prairies of Sioux County. For 17 years they lived on their homestead 2 miles south of Orange City and in 1888 they moved to their present place whence she has passed away. She leaves a husband and 12 children-two passing before her. [paraphrased--obit is much longer].

I have not been able to find a ship's manifest for Pieter Minnes Visser and family.
