JOE MANN SHRUM
When I am gone, release me, let me go
I have so many things to see and do
You must not tie yourself to me with tears
Be happy that I have had so many years
Joe Mann Shrum, 96, died peacefully at his home with his loving sister, Aileen Shrum Rowton, by his side, to join his wife in heaven April 6, 2008.
He was born August 31, 1910 in Honey Grove, Texas to John Wheeler and Mary Delitha (Mann) Shrum. He attended schools in Honey Grove and married Vivian Swearingen March 30, 1934. They were married seventy years until her death on February 18, 2004. They lived most of their lives in Texas City, Texas where Joe was employed by Monsanto. After his retirement from Monsanto Joe and Vivian returned to Greenville where they lived out their lives. They were members of First Baptist Church in Greenville.
Joe had a gentleman's demeanor; kind word and a gentle touch for all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by wife, parents, brothers Johnnie Lee, William Cullen "Willie", Fred Woodrow "Woody", Ancle Lafayette and one sister Mary Gladys.
