Roy served as a 2nd Lieutenant and pilot of B-17 #42-30260, 548th Bomb Squadron, 385th Bomb Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided at 31 Filon Avenue, Monroe County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on January 16, 1942 in Rochester, New York. He was noted as being employed as a Plumber and also as Single, without dependents.

Roy was killed while on a training flight out of Lewiston Army Airfield, the bomber experienced severe turbulence at 15,000 feet and an engine caught fire. Lt. Thompson ordered a bailout, but only one crewmember escaped in time before the B-17 crashed four miles south of West Yellowstone, Montana.
