Norton Adle, 90, former longtime Cozad resident, died April 23, 2007, in Sun City, Ariz.

Services were Monday, April 30, 2007, at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad with the Rev. Jaime Farias of Parkview United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Cozad Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Sun City, Ariz.; a son, Randy (Linda) Adle of Valdosta, Ga.; two daughters, Janet (Don) Wagner of Omaha and Joan (Tom) Lindekugel of Cozad; two step-daughters, Connie Crawford of Omaha and Sharon Miller of St. Louis, Mo.; a brother, Dana Adle of Long Beach, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, Shane, Angie, Heidi, William, Matthew, Amanda, Shannon, Amy, Alyssa, Scott, Ellie and Kim and nine great-grandchildren, Taylor, Joshua, Jake, Jordan, Jessica, Anjileeze, Luis, Joey and Skylar.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a sister, Althea; a brother, George, and a son-in-law, Richard B. Peterson.
Norton was born April 29, 1916, on the family farm south of Cozad to Ernest and Elsie (Brown) Adle. He was the oldest of four children and attended the Adle School, District 86 in Dawson County from kindergarten through the eighth grade.
He was graduated from Cozad High School in 1934. While in high school he worked for the Cooperative Gas and Oil. On Easter Sunday, March 28, 1936, he was united in marriage to Mildred F. Adams at the Evangelical United Brethren church.
Soon after Norton was drafted in the U. S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in Meridian, Miss. After his discharge, he returned to civilian life and joined the U.S. Postal Service and remained with the postal service until his retirement. He was also an agent for Midwest Life Insurance Company of Lincoln. During these years, he became a family man and father to three children.
He was baptized and became a member of the E.U.B. Church on Nov. 17, 1938. He remained a faithful member for 69 years and was an associate member of Willowbrook United Methodist Church in Sun City.
He was a charter member of the Cozad Elks Lodge #2250, American Legion, the Bell Lion's Club of Sun City, and the National Hot Rod Association. Norton was an avid sportsman and enjoyed an active life that included many hunting and fishing trips, as well as entertaining friends and family with card parties, fish fries and picnics. He had a passion for roses and shared their beauty with many.
He served on the Cozad Cemetery Board and was a volunteer in the Lion's Club of Sun City. In 2005, he was a recipient of the Dawson County Pioneer Family Farm Award, presented by Ak-Sar-Ben.
After the death of his wife, Mildred, in 1980, Norton remained in Cozad where he met and married Evelyn Crawford on Oct. 1, 1983. His extended family included two daughters and five grandchildren.
Norton and Evelyn spent their retirement years in Sun City and Cozad, often traveling to visit their widespread family.
