~MY ANCESTOR~
The son of GEORGE & MARY ABBOTT, he came as a small child with his parents to New England and probably grew up in Rowley in the colony of Mass. where the parents settled.

About 1655, George Jr. removed to North Andover. He was married to SARAH FARNUM in Andover, Mass. on April 26, 1658 by Mr. Bradstreet (The New England Historical & Genealogical Register, 1847-2011, page 65) . He was a tailor and farmer who acquired land and wealth (one of the five wealthiest men of Andover on the tax records), and he served in the militia. There were two George Abbotts in Andover at that time. This George was called Jr., George Abbott the tailor, and George Abbott of Rowley. The other George Abbott was called Sr. and was not our George's father since his father lived and died in Rowley.

On May 19, 1669, he was made a freeman of Andover and chosen constable in 1689. He beat the drum to signal time for labor to start and was paid (30 shillings per year) to ring the bell at the North meeting house in Andover and sweep the floor, as was his son, JOHN, in later years. George was appointed to collect the money (six pence) from anyone who brought a dog to the meetinghouse on the Sabbath.

On March 22, 1688/89, the records show that he died intestate (without a will) at Andover at about 58 years of age (depositions showed that he was 26 in 1657 and 44 years of age in 1676).

The children of George & Sarah (Farnum) Abbott:
George Abbott
Sarah (Abbott) Faulkner
JOHN ABBOTT -- my ancestor
Mary (Abbott) Barker
Nehemiah Abbott
Hannah (Abbott) Ingalls
Mehitable Abbott -- died young
Lydia (Abbott) Chandler
Samuel Abbott
Mehitable (Abbott) Cutter
