Esq. G.H. Bradley, Robertson's oldest citizen and last surviving Civil War Veteran, passed away at his home on the Kentontown and Piqua Road Sunday morning, of the infirmities of age.
Mr. Bradley was aged 92 years, 2 months and 25 days. At the age of 14 he enlisted in the Confederate Army and was assigned to the Artillery. He was a prisoner of War.
Following the close of the war he returned to the pursuits of peace and was a true and loyal citizen, held in high esteem always by neighbors and friends. He served several terms as Justice of the Peace in Kentontown Magisterial Christian Church.
His wife preceded him to the grave about 12 years ago. Surviving him are three children, one son, D.B. Bradley and two daughters, Mrs. Mollie Reeves of Nicholas Co Ky. and Mrs. John Anderson of Boone Co Ky, three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother M.B. Bradley, of Thomas.
Funeral services were held at Kentontown Christian Church Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Dewey Havens. The American Legion had charge of the remains at the grave and gave impressive Military Rites. The funeral procession was led by the flower girls, Misses Ivy and Hazel Isham, and Miss Edyth McConnell, followed by the casket draped with the American Flag.
The pallbearers were George Adkins, Grover Adkins, Kenneth Anderson, W.H. Burns, Jack Burns, and C.C. Burns. W.R. Beckett was bugler and Hord Case Chaplain. Wren Sprague and Homer Stevenson were other members of the Legion to participate in the firing of the salute.
It is said Mr. Bradley and wife were the second couple to secure marriage license in Robertson after the formation of the county in 1867.
