Sakri was born in Toholampi, Finland and came with his parents to South Dakota when he was still a toddler. His parents settled in the small Finnish farming community of Savo, just outside of Fredrick, South Dakota. He met Hilja Hirvaskari there. Married on November 30, 1908 in Fredrick, SD
Sakri scouted out property with his father-in-law Isaac Hirvaskari and decided on the Hood River area . He settled in the Odell area near Lenz Butte.
In 1923 they purached a twenty-acre orchard on Dethman Ridge from Chris Dethman. The orchard consisted of apples, pears, and cherries. Eventually after several years of frost, they stopped growing cherries.
Sakri and Hilja had 5 children.
Sakri died in 1937 from a stroke.
