Martha M. "Mattie" Goodwin Yancy was born August 6, 1865 in Pickens County, Georgia, to Theophilus Goodwin and Mary Matilda Hyde Goodwin White, both were born in Georgia.

Paralysis Is Fatal To Aged Resident of Hartselle 2

Coming suddenly, shortly after she had eaten a hearty dinner, Mrs. Mattie Yancy, aged 62 years, passed away Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at her home on Hartselle route 2, following an attack of paralysis. Mrs. Yancy had been a respected woman of the Hartselle section all her life and was beloved by many friends.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at three o'clock at Johnson's Chapel, being conducted by Revs. Henderson and Dan Praytor. Interment followed at that point, Priest directing.

The deceased is survived by her husband, L. N. Yancy; four sons, W. W. Yancy of Tanner, C. V. Yancy of Danville, of Decatur and J. L. Yancy of Hartselle; five daughters, Mrs. J. M. Hitt of Tennessee; Mrs. J. J. Hitt of Decatur, Mrs. J. M. Glasgow, Hartselle route 2, Mrs. D. G. Roberts, Danville route 3 and Mrs. J. Q. Prater of Hartselle route 2. Twenty-nine grandchildren also survive and one great-great-grandchild.
