OBITUARY OF ALLEN APPLEGATE
Had Lived Here Seven Years and Leaves Many Friends.
__Allen Applegate was born in Trumble county, Ohio, on May 29, 1849. He was the second son of David and Mary Applegate. In 1858 he came with his parents to Madison county, Iowa. In January, 1869, he was married to Miss Mary Chase and moved from Madison county to Cherokee county, where they made their home until 1881, when they returned to Madison county and resided there until 1895, when he took up his residence in Mercer county, Misouri. After living there seven years he moved to Cedar Rapids where he lived until his death, which occurred February 11, 1909.
__To them were born five daughters and one son. He is survived by his wife and three daughters, also by two brothers, four grandchildren and a young man, Mr. Charles Stafford of Monmouth, Ill., to whom Mr. and Mrs. Applegate were the same as parents. The surviving daughters are Mrs. Ira A. Moore, Miss Ethyl and Mrs. Carl Lorenzen, all of this city. the brothers are Andrew Applegate of Dexter, Iowa, and Benton Applegate of Brownlee, Neb.
__In 1864 he enlisted in Company I. Fourth Iowa cavalry, and served to the end of the war. He was an honored member of T. Z. Cook post, G. A. R., and was a consistent member of the Methodist church since boyhood, being a member of Trinity church of this city at the time of his death.
