Margaret Thompson, 86, of 2040 Holiday Road in Coralville, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at her home of cancer.

Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Lensing's Oak Hill in Coralville. Services will be Saturday, May 2nd at 10:30 am at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Coralville. Reverend Dr. Mitchell Otto will officiate. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Coralville or Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City.

Margaret was born August 4, 1922 in Poole, Nebraska, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Jochem) Reese. She married Glenn E. Thompson November 10, 1940. The couple moved to the Iowa City area that year and to Coralville in 1949, where they made their home at 617 3rd Avenue.
he worked as a custodian starting in 1958 at Burge Hall for the University of Iowa and later at U of I Hospitals & Clinics. She retired in February, 1978. Bored with retirement in 1990, Margaret took a position with Hardee's in Coralville as a biscuit maker. She "retired" early in 1997 as the dining room hostess where she took good care of her customers.

Margaret was a charter member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City. She later became a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Coralville where she was an active member until her death. Margaret was very active in church activities where her favorite dishes and desserts were well known at potluck dinners and social events. She has provided warmth and comfort to many people worldwide, with the quilts she has made for World Relief.

Survivors include her sons, Rod Thompson (Shirley) of Shueyville, LeRoy Thompson (Lin) of Cedar Rapids and Gerald Thompson (Goldie) of Puyallup, Washington, 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward Reese of Kearney, Nebraska and Everett Reese (Lette) of Lincoln, Nebraska; sisters, Dorothy Hinzman of McMinnville Oregon, Eileen Metz (Dave) of Kearney, Nebraska, Evelyn Kruetzer (Harold) of Odessa, Nebraska and Lori Kiper of Aledo, Texas and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and one sister.
