Ulysses G. Henry Passes Feb. 3rd - Obituary from a Crossville Newspaper
Ulysses Grant Henry, age 59 years, four months and 27 days, passed away February 3, at 9:45 P.M. in the East Tennessee Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. His passing came as a shock to his family and friends. Mr. Henry was employed as an operating engineer with Carbide & Carbon Chemical Corporation at Oak Ridge. He had held the same position for almost 12 years driving his own car daily from his home here. Mr. Henry's condition and illness was serious for some time. He complained very little. He had been under the care of a physician here for about two weeks, and continued his work. He entered the East Tennessee Baptist Hospital in Knoxville on Monday, January 23, for treatment, and was under the care of a specialist there until his passing. His wife went to the hospital with him and arranged to be at his bedside constantly through his illness; she never left the hospital remaining with him until the end. One daughter, Madeline, and son, Herbert, were at his bedside at his passing. The life he lived was simple and beautiful to those about him. Ulysses Grant Henry was born Sept. 6, 1896 in Cumberland County, near Litton, the son of George W. and Sarah Jane Parham Henry, deceased. There he grew up on a farm to young manhood. At the age of 25 years, he was married to Myrtle Hale. To this union six children were born: a daughter, Ruby Lucille, and a son Naldo Macklyn, passed away in babyhood. Mr. Henry united with the Methodist Church when 17 years of age, and lived a devoted Christian life. He was a devoted husband and father in his home; quiet in manner and always kind to those about him and ever ready to help those in need of help. He will be missed in his home and community. Surviving him are his wife, Mrytle J. Henry; two sons: Harry of Manchester; Herbert in the U. S. Army, Fort Knox, KY; two daughters, Madeline, home agent at Sevierville; now at home, and Mary Jo, Mrs. Richard Martin, of Barnwell, S.C. Other survivors are: four brothers: Bert, and Waymon, Litton; Rainey, of Jasper, and Guy who lives here; two sisters, Lula Cummins and Alba Agee of Litton; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church here of which he was a member, Sunday, at 2:00 P.M., conducted by Rev. Snavely.
