Some of this was confidential in nature, but one item can be shared here that demonstrates her independent and self-reliant personality: She was born "Virginia Zeura Self." However, she very much disliked the name Zeura, and when she came of age she had it legally changed to Rae.

Note in flower left by Virginia's son, Jessie, on Feb. 6, 2014:
"Dearest Mother,
I never knew you, but I wish I had. You gave me up in 1945 in San Francisco but I vowed I would find you one day. I'm so sorry that I was too late. May you be forever at peace.

Ginger was one of my new husband's aunts, whom I first met on our honeymoon in 1963. Much later, she accompanied her sister, and my husband's mother, Agnes, for an extended visit when we lived in Colorado. She was a very attractive and stimulating woman and had an exuberance for the interesting places we shared with our honored guests. During this visit, I spent hours in conversation with this remarkable woman. She shared many stories about her past, revealing some insightful glimpses into her life.
