DeLangton was the son of Dorothy Helyn "Dot" (Schetzer) Schenk and Ernest A. Ruttledge. He died as the result of an airplane accident. He was the co-pilot aboard a Navy Privateer bomber that experienced engine trouble causing it to spin out of control and crash into Laguna Madre Bay, 400 yards east of the Corpus Christ Naval Air Station. . All 10 crew members aboard the plane died in the accident.
