Jedediah Strong was born May 7, 1637 at Hingham, Suffolk County, Massachusetts to John and Abigail Ford Strong. The family didn't live very long in Hingham, moving around to several settlements, and by 1646, they lived in Windsor, Connecticut and by 1659, they had settled in Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. Jedediah, a farmer, married Freedom Woodward in Northampton December 18, 1662 and their children were: Abigail, Jedediah Jr., Ford (a son), a daughter, Hannah, Thankful, John, Sarah, Lydia, Mary, Experience, Preserved and John (again). After the death of Freedom, Jedediah married Abigail Bartlett, widow of John Stebbins, December 28, 1681 at Northampton. They had a daughter, Mary, in addition to the children Abigail had with John Stebbins. From 1677 - 1679, Jedediah was paid 18 shillings a year to blow a trumpet he owned to notify the townspeople of meetings. In 1683, he was a constable in Northampton. After the death of Abigail in 1689, Jedediah married Mary Hart, widow of John Lee, January 5, 1692. She had several children by John Lee, some who eventually married his children. Jedediah was father or step-father to 32 children. On October 10, 1710, Jedediah and Mary started out on a horseback trip from Northampton to Coventry, Connecticut to visit some of their children. Near South Hadley, Massachusetts, the horse they were riding slipped on some smooth stones "near the falls", injuring Mary. She died the next morning. In 1710, Jedediah moved to Coventry, moving in with his son Preserved. He died May 22, 1733 at Coventry, Tolland County, Connecticut and is possibly buried in the Nathan Hale Cemetery there, aged 96.
