Mae was born in Calumet, MI. She was the oldest daughter in a large immigrant family from Finland. Her father worked in the copper mines in Michigan's upper peninsula. Mae and several of her siblings were survivors of the Italian Hall Tragedy that occurred Christmas Eve, 1913 in Calumet, MI.

The family moved to Detroit around 1918 and her father worked in the automobile factories. She married Harold R. Rogers in Royal Oak, MI in 1920 and they settled there and raised two children. She and Harold moved to Lapeer, MI where they lived until Harold died in 1960. She lived in Florida for a number of years before returning to Michigan. At the time of her death Mae had 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Mae died May 25, 1980 in Alma, Michigan and is buried at Oakview Cemetery, Royal Oak, MI.
