Floyd Neathery dies at 102

DECATUR -Floyd H. Neathery, 102, of Decatur died 5:05 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 9, 1994) in St. Mary’s Hospital.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday in Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday with Masonic services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials: First Baptist Church, Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children or Decatur Masonic Temple Building Fund.

Mr. Neathery was born Dec. 19, 1891, in Vandalia, son of Andrew and Melissa Maria Sellars Neathery. He was a retired clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Decatur. He was a 77-year member of First Baptist Church, 75-year member of Masonic Lodge 312 AF&AM, receiving his 75-year pin in 1991. He was Past Master of Ionic Lodge 312, member and served as commander and secetary of Beaumanoir Commandery 9, member of the Grand Chapter and Council R.A.M. 21, Valley of Springfield Consistory Scottish Rite, Ansar Shrine, Zohak Grotto, where he was past Monarch and Secretary. He served with the Army in World War I and was a scoutmaster and involved with scouting for over 30 years. He married Lena Frances “Dot” Dillehunt on Dec. 31, 1919. She preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 1984.

Surviving are a great nephew, Stanley Neathery of Ontario, Canada, and a great niece, Donabelle Elam of Vandalia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, Floyd Jr., one brother and one sister.
